A tale of three different accents

Bridgetown: Rarely does one press conference yield the delight of three different accents.

Ireland's captain Trent Johnston is of Australian origin; coach Adrian Birrell is South African, and the media manager Irish.

"Watching the tournament in Australia in 1992 was a fantastic experience. I did dream of playing for Australia in the World Cup, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. Ireland gave me the chance to play in the World Cup, and I am grateful for that," said Johnston, who married an Irish girl and became an Irish citizen four years back.

Johnston played First Class cricket for New South Wales with Nathan Bracken and Brad Haddin.

Adrian Birrell plans to play golf and look after his family after the World Cup. "It's a dream come true for me," he said.

"I had planned a holiday in Mexico, I had to cancel that after we got to the Super Eights. I told the boys that by getting through to this stage, they have given me the greatest present ever. There is a great deal of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment; this is the result of the hard work of five years. I am very proud of the boys." — Special Correspondent
