New Delhi: Anup Sridhar stormed into the quarterfinals of the Asian Badminton Championship after a 21-18, 21-17 win over Hsieh Yu Hsing of Chinese Taipei on Friday. The 35th-ranked Sridhar, next faces the formidable Shoji Sato of Japan.
There was not much good news for India in the doubles court though as both men's and women's teams bowed out of the competition. The pair of Akshay Dewalkar and Sanjay Jishnu lost their second round tie 16-21, 17-21 to Njoto Albertu Susanto and Viratama Yohan Hadikusumo of Hong Kong in men's doubles. Earlier, they had got past Duong Bao Duc and Nguyen Hoang Nam 21-16, 21-12 of Vietnam. In women's doubles, B.R. Meenakshi and Aparna Balan lost to the Chinese pair of Ma Jin and Wang Xiaoli 10-21, 15-21 in the second round. PTI
