`CPI(M) trying to gag the judiciary'

  • Blames LDF and UDF for price rise
  • Says the Government should rein in extremists

KOTTAYAM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president P.K. Krishnadas has asked the Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty to step down in view of the adverse judgment passed by the Kerala High Court in the contempt of court case.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the State committee meeting of the party which commenced here on Monday, Mr. Krishnadas said the LDF and the CPI(M) were creating controversies by unleashing unbridled attack on the judiciary and the media to divert attention from the non-performance of the State government.

The BJP chief criticised the LDF for celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the first Government of the unified Kerala. "Before embarking on such celebrations, the Achuthanandan Government should subject themselves to an introspection," he said and added that the common man was passing through one of the worst periods in recent history on account of the unprecedented price rise for all essential commodities.

Mr. Krishnadas said neither the LDF nor the Congress could wash their hands of the present price rise.

He asked the State Government to take a serious view of the rising incidence of `extremist' attacks in Kerala and alleged that "extremists" were basing their camps in Malappuram district.

The BJP president asked the State Government to seek the services of paramilitary forces, if need be, to fight the "extremist" menace.

Mr. Krishnadas said the Nandigram incident exposed the real colour of the CPI(M) policies, which according to him was to aimed at helping the big players in the corporate sector.

Rahul Sinha, leader of the West Bengal unit of the party, addressed the gathering.

The afternoon session focussed on organisational issues.

Former presidents K.V. Sreedharan and C.K. Padmanabhan participated.
