TAMBARAM : A 45-year-old woman and her cousin were killed on the spot after they were hit by a train near Tirusulam railway station on Sunday evening.

Haniba Bi had come along with her family members to offer prayers at a dargah on the Pallavaram hillock. After prayers, they were proceeding to Tirusulam railway station to board a suburban electric train to reach their house in Washermenpet. They had just got past the railway level crossing when Haniba Bi was trapped in the railway tracks.

Her cousin Ahmed Basha tried to rescue her, when both of them were hit by an express train.

The accident took place at around 8 p.m., the Tambaram railway police said.
