NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court has directed Indian airline to pay salary to airhostesses and cabin crew grounded for allegedly being overweight.
A Division Bench comprising Justices M.K. Sharma and Sanjiv Khanna gave the ruling while hearing an appeal by the State-owned carrier against a single-judge order.
The airline stopped payment after grounding them. The airhostesses and cabin crew challenged its decision and Justice J.M. Malik ordered payment of salary. They also challenged a circular, issued in May last, withdrawing the permissible limit of three kg over and above the upper weight stipulation for them.
While ordering payment, the Bench said the interim relief would be subject to the outcome of the petitions pending before it.
Counsel for the petitioners said the airhostesses and cabin crew had cleared medical fitness tests to be on flight duty, and hence they could not be grounded.
