TIRUCHI:
Computerisation of the Immigration Department at the international airport here has reduced the time taken for verifying the bonafides of passengers.
Immigration sleuths have been provided with a computer each.
Twelve computers connected to a main server have been installed for use by the officials, who already have a hi-tech equipment to detect forged travel documents.
The computers contain details of Indian and foreign nationals whose names figure in the Look Out Circular (LOC).
The LOC contains name, passport number, sex, nationality, date of birth and the necessary action to be taken.
Besides, it also contains the list of those who have lost their passports.
Airport sources said the LOC provided by the Bureau of Immigration would be updated periodically.
Prior to installation of the computers, the Immigration Department maintained separate and country-wise LOC registers with names of such persons in the list in an alphabetical order.
Hitherto, it took considerable time, as the registers had to be verified to ascertain if the names of the passengers found a place in the registers of several countries.
All that the immigration officials have to do is to type the passport number, name and sex to rest assured that a passenger does not figure in the list.
