Srinagar:
A police constable was allegedly roughed up by a CRPF officer in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, sparking protest demonstrations which led to suspension of traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway for over an hour. Constable Abdul Qayoom was allegedly beaten up by a Deputy Commandant of the CRPF in full view of the public at Bijbehara, 45 km from here, after he intervened and tried to rescue a civilian driver reportedly being assaulted by CRPF personnel deployed on road opening duty, sources said.
When constable Qayoom noticed some CRPF personnel assaulting a driver of a vehicle for overtaking a force vehicle, he entered into an argument with the CRPF personnel, the sources said. PTI
