ISLAMABAD: After days of protests by lawyers and Opposition parties, it was the turn of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) to organise a rally on Tuesday, and they pulled all stops to mobilise in Rawalpindi a massive show that was addressed by President Pervez Musharraf. Addressing the rally, held at the city's landmark Liaquat Bagh, the President said Monday's show by Opposition parties had "flopped" as the people had rejected their attempts to create a law and order situation in the country by "politicising" a constitutional and judicial matter.
"True democracy"
Gen. Musharraf said "true democracy" had been established in the country. The national and provincial assemblies would be completing their tenure for the first time; the local government system was functioning "vibrantly;" women were getting their due rights; the status and the rights of minorities were being protected and, the media enjoyed "unprecedented freedom."
