A candlelight meeting

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Jan Nyaye Morcha (BJNM), an organisation working for promotion of pluralism, held a candlelight meeting at Jantar Mantar here on Monday to express its solidarity with the Samjhauta Express blasts victims.

Morcha president Aditya Tikoo condemned the ghastly blasts and called upon the people of India and Pakistan to stand firmly against the enemies of humanity. "Such barbaric acts of violence never serve any cause and cannot be justified," said Morcha general secretary Abhinav Ganju.

"Meditation for healthier living"

NEW DELHI: Spiritual guru Sant Rajinder Singh delivered a talk on "Meditation for Healthier Living" at the Indian Medical Association House here over the weekend. The talk was organised by IMA Headquarters and IMA East Delhi branch.

Sant Rajinder Singh also gave a practical demonstration of meditation and said it helps in reducing stress.

IMA president Ajay Kumar and secretary-general S.N. Misra also addressed the gathering.

New president for IMA branch

NEW DELHI: Tarun Gupta took over as president of the Indian Medical Association, New Delhi branch, here on Monday. He is an eminent laparoscopic and general surgeon.

Dr. Gupta said he would undertake numerous community projects like pulse polio, illiteracy eradication and uplift of women.

JNUTA welcomes decision

NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association has welcomed the decision of the National Programme Implementation Committee to set up a Bhagat Singh Chair at JNU here.

A proposal to this effect was moved by the JNUTA president, Prof. Chaman Lal of the JNU Centre for Indian Languages.

The JNUTA is also celebrating its 35th Foundation Day this Wednesday where eminent historian Bipan Chandra will be honoured on being appointed National Research Professor.

Minor fire in North Block

NEW DELHI: A minor fire on Monday broke out in North Block, which houses the Home and Finance Ministries.

The blaze was spotted in the corridor on the first floor in the evening and was doused within minutes, fire department said.
