TIRUPATI : A visit to the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, Tirupati, is going to be more attractive hereafter. Four `gharials' and a red jungle fowl have been brought from Indira Gandhi zoological park, Visakhapatnam on Monday. The `gharials', which are a river-water version of the common crocodiles, are 18 to 24 months old and measure 1 metre in length. "We are providing a lot of fish and minced meat to the `gharials', which are in the acclimatisation process," Curator K. Chandrasekhar Pillai told mediapersons. Housed in separate enclosures, the `gharials' would grow to maturity in ten years.
New arrival
While the zoo already has a female red jungle fowl, the new arrival is a male, which is specific to central and northern parts of the country. Reacting to a number of complaints received recently, Mr. Pillai appealed to visitors not to tease the wild animals, litter the premises with plastic carrybags and also not to cross the barricades.
