Poll campaign sans allegations, heat and dust

Staff Reporter

Focus on education for all and job opportunities

VIJAYAWADA: No allegations and counter allegations. No rallies that raise so much heat and dust. The ongoing electioneering for the legislative council seems to set an ideal for their `unstoppable cousins' of the legislative assembly as far as focus of elections is concerned.

The tone and tenor of campaign by candidates running for Legislative Council Graduates and Teachers' Constituencies has brought into sharp focus two major issues - education for all and creation of more job opportunities.

In their list of priorities, almost all candidates are making a blatant display of their preference for the education plank mainly due to the fact that they are addressing the educated sections of society. If one candidate promises to take up the cause for improvement of facilities in educational institutions, another candidate lays emphasis on jobs for young generation.

General scenario

As the polling day scheduled for March 17 approaches, the general scenario gets hot with pre-election resolutions of candidates filling the air everywhere.

The scene is no different with regard to the Krishna-Guntur Teachers and Graduates' constituencies.

G. Satyanarayana, who has entered the fray for teachers' constituency with support from the Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation (APTF), has three priorities before him if elected to the legislative council.

Having served in different capacities in APTF at Machilipatnam, Mr. Satyanarayana talks more about the need for resolving problems confronting teachers.

Chigurupati Varaprasad, who is the TDP-supported MLC candidate for graduates' constituency, asserts there is a long felt need for providing education and health to all the needy people in society.
