TAMBARAM: A 23-year-old software engineer died on the spot when she was run over by a sewage tanker on Velachery Main Road near Pallikaranai on Saturday after a fall from a motorcycle. Kavitha, daughter of Ekanathan, was working with the Tata Consultancy Services at Karapakkam. A native of Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai District, Kavitha was staying in Mahalakshmi Nagar near Tambaram. On Saturday she was travelling with 24-year-old Shankar, a family friend and a resident of Tiruvanmiyur. Shankar too was a software professional, according to Pallikaranai police who are investigating the case. When they neared the Mylai Balaji Nagar bus stop, Shankar was reported to have lost control of the motorcycle after it skidded. The two were thrown off the vehicle. Shankar was wearing a helmet and did not sustain head injuries, police said. He was admitted to a private hospital nearby. Hundreds of sewage tankers criss-cross the arterial roads and interior roads of the southern suburbs of Chennai.
