CHENNAI: The three-day Living Spaces property fair that opened on Saturday has, under one roof, all that one may require to build a house. The LIC Housing stall has placed an advertisement at the entrance of the exhibition hall saluting your effort `aapko salaam'. That set the mood for the exhibition inaugurated by Chennai Corporation commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni on Saturday. As an optimistic visitor to The Hindu Property Plus Living Spaces 2007 exhibition moves on to other stalls, a dream home is not difficult to envisage, not withstanding the financial aspect of the entire project. Nationalised banks, corporations and private housing finance companies have put up stalls, offering attractive interest rates. But what captures a visitor's imagination is the ingeniously displayed household requirements that entice you into conjuring up images of a home of your own. The desire for comfort increases as you move through the stalls. Some builders have set up life-size rooms, giving you an idea of what you should look for when you buy a place of your own. The focus is on flooring, doors, painted windowpanes and modular kitchens among others. Companies offer entire kitchens, beginning at Rs.80,000, and give you a choice of the countertop. Others have displayed pullout units, leaving choice of door panels to the customer. You could consider going in for an attractive, transparent glass bowl sink in the bathroom and matching it by highlighting one colour for the rest of the room. You could opt for a jacuzzi-like bathtub with a hand shower and several shower outlets to control water temperature. Companies have also displayed electronic items such as digital electronic generators. Interesting additions you may want to check out are the electric cookers, the exchange offer on emergency lamps and the imaginative furniture on display. The stalls also offer discounts if you place your orders. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till Monday.
