Dubai campus admissions open

Staff Reporter

Undergraduate, Master's degree programmes in variety of subjects available

  • Cheaper than `studying in the U.S. or U.K.'
  • Transfer to Australia `can be done at any point'

CHENNAI: The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) began admitting students from Chennai on Friday to its various programmes.

The Dubai branch of the Australian university offers undergraduate programmes in Business Administration, Commerce, Internet Science and Technology and Computer Science.

It also has Masters programmes in Business Administration, International Business, Quality Management, Strategic Marketing and Strategic Human Resource Management.

UOWD is accredited by the Ministry of Higher education and Scientific Research. Candidates need a minimum of four years' experience to apply for the MBA course. For the other programmes, an under graduate degree is required.

Chirag Parekh, student recruitment officer, said the campus currently had 2,500 students of 80 different nationalities. "The benefits of studying in Dubai are that it is cheaper than the U.S., Australia and the U.K. A student can get a transfer to the Australian institute at any point during the course, and the visa procedure takes a week," said Mr. Parekh. He also said there were plenty of job opportunities for students, as the UAE was a business hub.

The intake for the Master's programmes begins in May. In 2006, there were 125 students from India in the University, mostly pursuing courses such as MA in International Business and the MBA programme.

The university will be back in the city for recruitments in March as part of an educational road show.
