CHENNAI: Multinational group AXA has entered into a social partnership with Sevalaya, a charitable trust, and will sponsor the education of 60 childrenthrough school until they become capable of supporting themselves. The trust focuses on providing quality and free education to orphaned, poor and rural children. It runs one home each for boys and girls housing about 160 children, the Mahakavi Bharathiar Higher Secondary School, a medical centre and library, a crafts centre to train rural women, a cow shelter and an old age home at Kasuva Village near Thiruninravur. Representatives of AXA from the United Kingdom visited the premises on Monday and announced the partnership. Among proposed methods of fundraising, AXA executives will travel by economy class, putting the difference in amount that an executive business class would cost into the fund. AXA has also expressed willingness to associate itself with Sevalaya's project to start a free university for poor and meritorious students. Representatives of AXA handed over a cheque for £3,000 and participated in a cricket match between visitors and the school team.
