Maidservant arrested and stolen ornaments recovered

Theft committed in IAS officer's residence

CHENNAI : Police said they had arrested a maidservant and recovered gold ornaments stolen from the residence of an IAS officer at SAF Games village in Koyambedu.

Acting on a complaint from the resident, Ms Meena, that her valuables were missing and that the maidservant Amirtha Mari (24) could be behind the act, a case was registered.

Police detained and interrogated her, following which they recovered the stolen articles weighing 17 sovereigns.

They also arrested Amirtha Mari's friend Rajan (23) of Anwar Meeyan Garden, Adyar on charges of helping her sell the ornaments.

Cases have been registered against both Amirtha Mari and Rajan and a court has remanded them to judicial custody, a press note stated.
