Madurai: SAI (Chennai) dethroned Integral Coach factory (Chennai) in men's section with a 31-14 victory in the men's final of the 51st Tamil Nadu State senior kabaddi championship, organised by Madurai District Amateur Kabaddi Association, at Checkanurani near here on Thursday night. There was a commotion midway in the men's final in the first half when the stage, where the prize distribution had to take place, collapsed. However all the VIPs, including the Deputy Mayor, P.M. Mannan, and chief minister M. Karunanidhi's daughter-in-law Gandhi Alagiri escaped unhurt, Sports Minister Moideen Khan, Mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan, and Sholavadan, MLA, P. Moorthy, who suffered only minor injuries. Within 10 minutes everything was set right and the final continued. After the men and women's finals were over, Mrs. Gandhi Alagiri gave away the prizes. Chennai District team won the women's title with a hard-earned 8-7 victory over Tamil Nadu Police. Madurai finished third in both the men and women's events. In the play off women's match, Madurai beat Erode 23-20, while men's team got a walk over from Sun Paper Mills, Cheranmadavi.
Vinoth shines
Vinoth's five for 20 helped Muthiah Alagappa MHSS, Kottaiyur, defeat Kamban MHSS, Karaikudi, by 132 runs in the Sivagangai District inter-school cricket tournament for Pitchaimani Nadar Trophy at Karaikudi on Friday.

A goal scored by Mohamed Azaruddin helped Alagappa University College of Physical Education defeat Kaliswari Football Club, Kalanivasal 1-0 in the Sivagangai D.F.A. `A' division league at Karaikudi on Friday.
