KOCHI: The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Supplyco for distribution of Supplyco items at select outlets of the IOC. Five stores will start functioning in the first phase. Two of them will be in Kozhikode and one each in Palakkad, Kottayam and Kollam. The arrangement would be extended to more centres later, said G.C. Daga, Director (Marketing), Indian Oil Corporation, at a press conference here on Wednesday. Mary Matilda, General Manager, Supplyco, was present. Petrol and diesel are distributed through more than 500 outlets of the IOC in the State. The company has 14 auto LPG stations in the State. Six more would be set up this year, he said. He said new services were being extended at various outlets. Automated petrol pumps had been set up at Edapally and Aroor. The consumer received automated billing with details at these outlets. Adulteration could be easily detected by this mechanism, he said. Answering questions, Mr. Daga said the IOC was exploring the possibility of setting up a LPG handling facility in Kochi. The company had been employing world-class technology in different areas of operation. Introduction of marker to prevent adulteration in kerosene was part of it. He said the biodiesel project was in progress. The company was in discussion with many States for joint ventures. As part of the project, cultivation of jatropha to extract oil from its seed was being taken up. But unremunerative prices had been dissuading farmers from taking up large-scale cultivation of jatropha.
