CPI (M) wants ban on Tamil channels to go

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The CPI (M) has appealed to the Kannada film industry and pro-Kannada organisations to withdraw the ban imposed on screening of Tamil films and on Tamil TV channels in the State because of the Cauvery issue.

In a press release, party State secretary G.N. Nagaraj said the ban had denied access to information, news and entertainment to Tamils in their mother tongue.

The CPI (M) leader also took exception to the silence of the State Government in this regard.

Pointing out that protests related to the final award of the Cauvery tribunal were being held peacefully so far, he expressed fear that such ban on films and TV channels might derail the protests by paving the way for a clash between Kannada and Tamil film industry as well as TV channels.

Flawed

The Institution of Agricultural Technologists (IAT) has expressed total disagreement with the final award of the Cauvery tribunal.

In a release, the IAT said the tribunal had not considered important technical realities of the Cauvery basin in a rational way while arriving at a decision.
