BANGALORE: The much-awaited all-party meeting will be held in Bangalore on February 24 to decide the State's stand on the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. According to sources in the Chief Minister's secretariat, the meeting, which irrigation and legal experts will attend, will decide the course of action to be followed by the State.
Meeting with MPs
Prior to that, a meeting of all State MPs will be held in Delhi on February 22. Officials from the State Water Resources Department will make a PowerPoint presentation on the impact of the tribunal's final award on Karnataka, sources said. The Delhi meeting will also discuss the State's projects that are pending before various Union Ministries for clearance. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Water Resources Minister K.S. Eshwarappa will attend the meeting with the MPs, which will set the tone for the all-party meeting two days later. An all-party meeting was held in Bangalore on February 7 to discuss the final award. But that meeting remained inconclusive with leaders seeking more time to arrive at a stand on the final award. The leaders had observed that it would be better to discuss the implications of the verdict after going through the full text of the final award. Accordingly, the Government circulated copies of the 1000-page award to leaders of all political parties, legislators as well as irrigation and legal experts. The State Cabinet at its recent meeting decided to convene an all-party meeting soon to decide the State's stand on the final award.
