Congress leaders discuss U.P.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leaders and Union Ministers, including Shivraj Patil, A. K. Antony, Kapil Sibal and Political Secretary to Congress president Ahmed Patel, on Friday held discussions here on the developments in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

After the discussions, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Highly placed Congress sources said the pros and cons of the situation were being deliberated. Consultations were on with allies in an attempt to bring about a consensus, sources added.

A worry in the Congress circles is that if the Centre fails to act fast, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh could spring a surprise by resigning to remain a caretaker until the Assembly elections are over.
