Army Major killed

Guwahati: An Army major was killed in an accidental fire from his own service pistol at Tengakhat in upper Assam's Dibrugarh district on Friday afternoon.

Defence spokesman Lt. Colonel Narendra Singh told The Hindu that Major Pragyan Battacharyya of 11 Guards was hit by a bullet from his own weapon during checking of arms and ammunition before the troops were about to go out on a counter-insurgency operation.
