Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Friday said its withdrawal of the ban on holding the ongoing National Games here should not be construed as weakness. It said it had withdrawn the ban respecting the appeal by legendary sports personalities and sports-loving people of Assam and "not out of any love for Indian colonial rulers."

In the latest edition of Freedom, English version of the ULFA's newsletter, it said it had "received the body of the devoted and destined cadre Biplob Sangmai as a reward for regards shown to boost sports in Asom."

"Biplob Sangmai became a victim of cold-blooded murder soon after the ban on the games was withdrawn. This is the reply of India for the cordiality shown by the ULFA for the resolution of Indo-Asom political conflict."

The hardcore rebel was killed in the February 7 joint operation by the Assam police and the Central Reserve Police Force at Barhathri village in Karbi Anglong district.

The ULFA also alleged that those who were vocal against the outfit's ban on the Games did not dare raise their voice against anti-ULFA military operation.
