MOSCOW: Russia expressed confidence in continued friendly relations with Turkmenistan as the newly elected President of the gas-rich Central Asian state was sworn in the capital Ashgabat. The former Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, who won 89.2 per cent of the votes cast in Sunday's presidential elections in Turkmenistan, was inaugurated in a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries, including Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher and the leaders of several former Soviet states, Turkey and Afghanistan.
