TIRUCHI : The Health and Family Welfare Minister, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, on Friday said that efforts would be taken to upgrade the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in the city. Inaugurating a high tech laboratory established at the Kavery Medical Centre and Hospital here and managed by the Lister Metropolis, the Minister said he along with Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, who represents Tiruchi - II assembly constituency, would take up the issue of hospital upgrading with the Chief Minister at a cost of Rs. 50 crore. Mr. Ramachandran said he would ascertain the improvements, creation of necessary infrastructure facilities in the taluk hospitals and developments undertaken in primary health centres during a review meeting to be held here on March 6. Many patients from outside Tamil Nadu and those even from abroad were coming to the state to undergo medical treatment as the hospitals in the state provided advanced quality treatment. He said various steps were being taken to ensure cleanliness in government hospitals in the state, while calling upon the general public to extend their cooperation in this effort. The Transport Minister K.N. Nehru and Mayor Sarubala R. Tondaiman spoke. The managing director, Lister Metropolis, G.S.K. Velu said a sum of Rs. one crore had been invested for equipment. The managing director, Kavery Medical Centre Hospital, S. Chandra Kumar welcomed the gathering. The chairman, Metropolis Group, Sushil Shah and others participated.
