BANGALORE: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner K. Jairaj has slapped a penalty of Rs. 50,000 each on two street light contractors for not properly maintaining the lights. After an inspection of streetlights in the city on Wednesday, the Commissioner noticed that several lights on the 46th Cross Road in Jayanagar were not illuminating. He immediately directed the Executive Engineer (Electrical - South) to slap a fine of Rs 50,000 on Lakshmikanth Electricals, the firm that is in charge of maintenance, stated an official press release. Similarly, the Commissioner who inspected streetlights on R.V. Road on Thursday noticed that the lights were not maintained properly. He slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on Srihari Electricals for the negligence.

BBMP health officials in charge of East Zone lunched a drive on Thursday and shut down two mutton stalls, four chicken stalls, one fish stall and 12 petty shops that were running unauthorisedly on the pavements of Mahatma Gandhi Road, Markham Road, Ejipura Main Road and Austin Town.
