Letters to the Editor
This refers to "Higher education in a multicultural society" (Feb. 8). Only education with a humanistic tinge can help rediscover the creative potential in society.
Ashish Kumar Rath,
* * * K.N. Panikkar's opinion piece on education for the twenty-first century was thought provoking. However, I would like to point out that UNESCO has repeatedly and unequivocally advocated the use of the mother tongue as the medium of education in the primary and secondary school stages. We need to draw lessons from nations like Switzerland, which don't see globalisation as a reason to discard their native languages.
