Hunt on for two more in ball bearings case
K.T. Sangameswaran
CHENNAI:
The State `Q' branch investigating the iron ball bearings seizure case suspects the hand of two more persons in the crime.
They are believed to have played a key role in the transportation of iron ball bearings from the Tamil Nadu coast to Sri Lanka in the past, a senior police officer has told The Hindu . Twelve persons have been arrested so far.
The hunt for more persons comes in the wake of the arrest of Giridhar (23), a fisherman of Akkamadam in Rameswaram, based on the interrogation of those held earlier.
The officer says a boat used for allegedly transporting iron ball bearings, weighing about seven tonnes, has been seized.
The gang was busted after the special unit arrested eight persons in Chennai and one at Tuticorin for attempting to smuggle iron ball bearings to Sri Lanka. Five tonnes of the consignment were seized in the city and in Tuticorin.
