KCA to promote Twenty20 cricket

To help women's cricket association financially

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The central council meeting of the Kerala Cricket Association that met here on Sunday decided to promote Twenty20 cricket in a big way in the State. The meeting also decided to help women's cricket association financially and extend all help for the development of women's cricket in the State.

Briefing newspersons after the meeting, the KCA President S.K. Nair said that the final decision on the proposed KCA's international stadium project would be taken after the general body meeting of the KCA. He said since the project would involve a lot of funds a final decision would be taken at an appropriate time and he chose to dismiss the reports appearing in a section of the media about the project being shelved.

The KCA president also chose to ignore the reported feud between the KCA Secretary and President over the selection of the Ranji trophy one-day team as a figment of imagination by a section of the media.

A cohesive body

He said the KCA was a cohesive body and the meeting reviewed the ongoing projects of the KCA under its vision 2010 plan. It was decided to go ahead with the work on stadium projects at Kannur, Malapuram and Wayand and efforts would be made to complete the work within this financial year. The meeting also reviewed the proposals from the DCA's of Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikodee, Idukki, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasaragod regarding the establishment of district and zonal coaching centres. Mr. Nair said that efforts would be made to start the first phase of work in these districts in this financial year.

The meeting also decided to conduct refresher courses for qualified umpires and scorers in the State. It was decided to send the under-25 cricket team for the South Zone tournament during this month and the selection process would be done by a committee headed by the KCA President and Secretary.
