DUBAI : Ryder Cup hero Henrik Stenson sunk a testing 10-footer at the last to trump both Ernie Els and Tiger Woods in winning the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday. The 30-year-old Swede, who holed the winning putt against the Americans in Ireland last September, was steadiest among the leaders on a day when a warm desert wind whipped up sand and dust to make it a struggle all the way. He came in with a four-under 68 for a 19-under total of 269 and a one-stroke victory over Els who started the day in the lead two shots ahead of the Swede but lost vital ground with three bogeys in the first six holes. Defending champion Woods finished a stroke further adrift. The Asian challenge fell away on the final day with India's Jyoti Randhawa, who had been lying joint second, struggling at times on the way to a three-over 74.
Digvijay tied 11th
At Manila, a double bogey towards the end cost Digvijay Singh a chance to grab a top 10 finish at the Philippine Open. Digvijay, two-under after 16 holes, dropped a double bogey on 17th and finished with a round of 72 to total even 288 and finish tied 11th with five others. Gurbaaz Mann slipped from overnight fourth to tied 36th as he shot 81, while Uttam Singh Mundy (75) was tied 47th and Arjun Singh (74) was tied 60th.
Chopra slips
At Scottsdale (USA), Daniel Chopra had a nightmarish start with three bogeys at the opening and a double bogey on fifth in the third round of the FBR Open golf tournament. Chopra, five-over after five holes, finally ended the day at three-over 74 on the par-71 layout. The leader continues to be rookie Jeff Quinney who shot a 3-under 68 to hold on to a two-stroke lead in front of a huge crowd. Agencies
