TVS Srichakra rolls into final

Madurai: TVS Srichakra Cricket Club beat Le Chatelier CC by nine wickets to enter the final of the Alagiri Birthday district-level cricket tournament at the Madura College ground here on Sunday.

The scores (semifinals):

Le Chatelier 95 in 19.2 overs (Subramania Siva three for 21) lost to TVS Srichakra 96 for one in 13 overs (Subramania Siva 50 not out).

Majestic 104 for six in 20 overs (Pandiarajan 30 not out) lost to Arasaradi 105 for seven in 17 overs (Puthuvel three for 18).

Daniel's effort

goes in vain

At Dindigul, G. Suresh Daniel's five for 32 went in vain as Sachin CC lost to A.P. CC (Pillayarnatham) by 99 runs in the Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league on Sunday.

A.P. CC 172 in 31.1 overs (S. Dhanapal 58, N. Rahuman 35, G. Suresh Daniel five for 32, T. Venkatesh three for 32) bt Sachin CC 73 in 26.5 overs (N. Alagupandy four for 30, V. Sankar three for 15).

PVP College posts win

Pannaikadu Veerammal Paramasivam College defeated Parvathy College of Arts and Science by 58 runs in the RVS Trophy district-level inter-collegiate league on Sunday.

Pannaikadu Veerammal Paramasivam College 141 for six in 22 overs (K. Madhusudanan 62) bt Parvathy College of Arts and Science 83 in 20.2 overs.

Murugan performs

hat-trick

Murugan's hat-trick helped Alagar Memorial Football Club blank Pele Sports Club 3-0 in the Dindigul District Football Association `B' division league, for the Coronation Trophy, at the N.M.M HSS ground.

Sathyabama is champion

At Gandhigram, Sathyabama Institute of Technology (Chennai) lifted the Dr. Soundaram memorial Trophy with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-12 win over Yadava College (Madurai) in the final match of the four-team league in the State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament, organised by Gandhigram Rural University, at the University ground on Sunday.

Sathyabama emerged champion with an all-win record in the league while Yadava finished runner-up.

In another match, GRU `A' beat GRU `B' 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 to come third.

Sathyabama bt GRU `A' 25-18, 25-20, 25-23; Yadava bt GRU `B' 25-22, 25-23, 25-27, 17-25, 15-11.

GRU, SIT advance

Host Gandhigram Rural University, Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti), St. Joseph's College (Tiruchi) and Annamalai University entered the semifinal round-robin league in the basketball tournament for the KSS memorial Trophy here on Sunday.

Hat-trick by Peter

John Peter scored a hat-trick, as Rising Sun defeated Cosmopolitan FC 4-1 in a Tiruchi District Football Association second division `A' zone league match in Tiruchi on Sunday.

Suresh gave Cosmopolitan the early lead but Arun Bharathidasan equalised soon.

John Peter scored in the 13th and 17th minutes to help Rising Sun take a 3-1 lead at half-time.

He netted again in the second half to guide his team to victory.

Super division: YMCA 2 bt Jothi Malleables 0.

Second division: Rising Sun FC 4 (John Peter 3, Arun Bharathidasan 1) bt Cosmopolitan FC 1 (Suresh); Josephite FC 2 (Ravi 2) bt SQAE FC 1 (Stanley).

Karaikal wins title

Host Karaikal Polytechnic College defeated Women's Polytechnic College 25-18, 25-19 to win the volleyball title in the Tiruchi division inter-polytechnic collegiate sports meet for women in Karaikal on Sunday.

Government College of Technology (GCT) defeated Mohammed Sathak Engineering College by 31 runs and won the Shri Vanchinatha Dikshithar Rolling Trophy at the fourth State-level inter-engineering collegiate cricket tournament in Pudukottai on Sunday.
