NEW DELHI: Siddharth Rajan has found a unique way to promote the India-Pakistan peace process. The 22-year-old has embarked on a unicycle tour from New Delhi to Lahore. The ride was flagged off by Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar at the National Stadium here on Saturday.

For part of his peace journey to Lahore, two friends of Siddharth will accompany him on bicycles. His parents will also be part of a support team up to the Wagah border. His sister too will accompany him on a bicycle up to the Wagah border. Siddharth, who has captained the Singapore unicycle national team, has several long-distance records in uni-cycling to his credit.

He had earlier undertaken a long-distance unicycle ride though Laos.

    Adventure trip

After his peace trip to Lahore, Siddharth will be preparing for an adventure trek from North Pole to South Pole for which he has been short-listed by the Pole-to-Pole Institute, the organisers of the trek. Applicants for the trek have to demonstrate skill and endurance that are vital to go through the arduous trek that includes travelling for 18 months and covering 35,000 km through ice, sand, rain, extreme cold and heat.

Siddharth, who has been selected for the training camp for the expedition in Canada, has also sought support through sponsors. During this unique adventure trek scheduled to begin in April, the selected group of youngsters will cycle, ski and walk their way connecting the two Poles.
