Successful recovery: Coast Guard chief

PUDUCHERRY: The Coast Guard "successfully" recovered the Space Capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE-1) module without "any damage," said Vice-Admiral Rustom Faramroze Contractor, Director-General of Coast Guard.

"It was a tedious job but we have successfully done it. For the last two years we have been closely working together with ISRO and had done several trials to recover the module," he told The Hindu. He is on a visit to the Coast Guard station here.

After the module touched the Bay Off Bengal, it was located divers began their job, said Commanding Officer Chandran, Chief Staff Officer, Operations.

The divers in Gemini boats (inflatable rubberised boat that has fast manoeuvrability) attached additional floats alongside the module.

Divers in other boats, dropped from "Sarang," reached the spot and towed the module towards the ship. It was then lifted and placed in the dock, he added.
