YSR unhappy over Indiramma scheme

Chief Minister grills Collectors of West Godavari and Chittoor

  • Seeks reasons for mismatch between allocation and sanctioned houses
  • Collectors asked to develop satellite townships

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy expressed displeasure over the tardy progress of urban housing under the Indiramma programme while reviewing it at a video-conference with District Collectors on Sunday.

Dr. Reddy grilled Collectors of West Godavari and Chittoor Luv Agarwal and S.S.Rawat, respectively. Seeking to know reasons for a mismatch between the allocation and the sanctioned houses he told Mr. Agarwal: "I am not at all happy with whatever is happening in West Godavari district. Tomorrow I am coming there. Keep all the details ready."

At one point, the Chief Minister observed: "Let us not land in the same type of troubles like the earlier Government." On another occasion, he said: "Let this not turn out to be another food for work programme."

He asked Collectors to develop satellite townships under the urban housing scheme by purchasing lands a little away from towns.

    Land acquisition

When Mr. Rawat said the land value was exorbitant even on the outskirts of towns like Tirupati, he suggested that the procedure of land acquisition be followed.

The Chief Minister asked officials to involve people's representatives in convincing the landlords.

Stating that such a massive programme would certainly have teething problems, he wanted them to implement it with a "missionary zeal" and show progress by the next review in mid-February.
