BANGALORE: Ashwin Naik and co-driver Moosa Sharief, in a Maruti 800, bagged the title in the Maruti Suzuki Discover Karnataka Rally, which concluded at the Sun Valley Country Club here on Sunday. Ashwin and Moosa had grabbed the lead at the end of the second day and after a thrilling third day, held on to win the 980km rally by a narrow margin. Girijashankar Joshi and co-driver Shrikantiah in a Santro lost out by just two seconds at the finish. The results: Open (professional) class: 1. Ashwin Naik/ Moosa Sharief (Maruti 800) 2.27; 2. Girijashankar Joshi/ B.M. Shrikanth (Hyundai Santro) 2.29; 3. Pradeep Urs/ Ravindra & Ravi (Esteem) 4.22; 4. Selvaraja/ Sukumar & Arun (Maruti 800); 5. Umakanth/ Sunil Shetty (Hyundai Accent) 9.11. Novice: 1. Ratan/ Ravi (Zen); 2. Sujay/ Chidanand (Esteem); 3. Prashanth/ Ashok (Baleno).
Manjunath shines
S.P. Manjunath's unbeaten 123 (14x4s) for RBNCC `A', was the highlight of its drawn encounter against Yuvaraja's College in the KSCA Mysore Zone first division league encounter played at Mysore on Sunday. The scores: First division: RBNCC `A' 254 for five in 42 overs (S.P. Manjunath 123 not out) drew with Yuvaraja's College 169 for five in 59 overs (Vinay 44). Second division: Karavali Cricketers 219 in 49 overs (Pramod 44, S. Vibhudendra 43, Shivakumar five for 77, Sripathi four for 44) drew with Garner CC 187 for six in 51 overs (Dilip 50).
