Stany triumphs

MANGALORE: G.A. Stany of Shimoga won the State-level rapid chess tournament here on Sunday.

Although Stany and B.S. Shivananda of Sagar finished with 8.5 points apiece from 10 rounds, Stany was declared the winner on a better progressive score (50.5) compared to Shivananda (49.5). Thej Kumar (Mysore), Sriram Sarja (Konandoor), Girish A. Koushik (Mysore) and Aravind Shastry (Bangalore), all with eight points, finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively based on their progressive scores.
