C. Thangamuthu, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Thiruchi, was the chief guest at the event. In his address, he talked about the need for colleges to integrate different disciplines. He said the weakness of technical education was a lack of basic science education and vice versa. Dr Thangamuthu criticised councils and committees that he said were unrealistic in their demand that every discipline should have a separate structure. "Knowledge is integrated. It is interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary... we need to break barriers," he said. He encouraged students to study outside of their fields, saying that often students are pushed to do a degree due to signals from the job market. He said the education system should enable them to switch. Another concern he brought up was the lack of quality faculty. He said that corporates always managed to woo the best brains with fat salaries. Dr Thangamuthu requested students to take up teaching. There were 213 graduates from four departments - Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and Information Technology. The college topper Nandhini S held the third rank at the university in BE ECE from 10,696 candidates.
