CHENNAI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Thursday demanded fresh poll for all the 155 wards in the Chennai Corporation.

In a statement here, he said the Corporation Council should be dissolved, as "irregularities were committed in all these wards."

Demanding the suspension of the State Election Commissioner and police officers who "connived" with those who were responsible for the "injustice," he demanded a probe into their role.

He described Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's statement that councillors belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its allies elected from 99 wards would resign and face re-poll as "eyewash."

The Chief Minister had lost his moral authority to continue in office.

The MDMK's regional conference, scheduled to be held in Coimbatore on February 1, has been postponed in view of party activists' meetings in various districts. A fresh date will be announced later, Mr. Vaiko said.
