Bangalore: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Castes Morcha, Karnataka, on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan and Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari. They demanded the arrest of members of Samata Sainik Dal (SSD), who defaced the portraits of "Bharat Mata" and Guruji Golwalkar of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Members of the morcha, led by MLC D.S. Veeraiah told Mr. Srinivasan that members , led by Venkataswamy, Nagari Babaiah and Chandrashekhar, had defaced the portraits of "Bharat Mata" and Guruji Golwalkar on Monday. They even tried to burn the portraits, they said. "By doing this, they have insulted the Constitution and hurt the sentiments of the people. They are trying to spoil the communal harmony and split society," Mr. Veeraiah alleged. He urged Mr. Srinivasan to direct officials concerned and initiate action to arrest members of the SSD. Mr. Sinivasan assured the delegation that he would direct the officials concerned to take action and ensure that such incidents were not repeated. " When members met Mr. Bidari and submitted their memorandum, he immediately called Commissioner of Police N. Achutha Rao and an Assistant Commissioner of Police and urged them to investigate the matter." Mr. Veeraiah said.
