`Hard work is the key to success'

BANGALORE: Poorna Pragna Education Centre, Yelahanka New Town, celebrated its Junior School Day recently.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University K. Chidananda Gowda was the chief guest. He exhorted the children to achieve success through hard work. Principal K.S. Manjunath read the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the school.

Prizes were distributed to meritorious students. Vaibhav. G was adjudged the best outgoing student among boys, and Kavya. M among girls.

Students presented songs and dances as part of the variety entertainment programme held later. Vishwapriya Tirtha Swamiji was present.

Honorary in-charge of the school S.S. Hubli welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests.

Cultural show

Oxford Institutions, Nagarabhavi, organised "Vaibhavotsav 07," a cultural fest at Ravindra Kalakshetra recently. It was inaugurated by V. Somanna, MLA.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare gave away prizes to toppers in the SSLC examination held in March 2006. Meritorious students of other classes were also felicitated.

Founder president M.C. Ravindranath, secretary of the school B. R. Supreeth and principal H. N. Usha were present.

Science exhibition

The Bangalore North district-level science exhibition was held at Shiksha Sagar High School, Sanjaynagar, recently.

Students exhibited several innovative and interesting models.

A. Devprakash, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, inaugurated it. He spoke on the importance of science in day-to-day life and developing technology for the benefit of humanity.

The former Higher Education Minister G. Parameshwar was the chief guest at the valedictory function.

A. Somashekar, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat; Chandraiah Swamy, Director, DSERT; and Education Officers T. C. Chandraiah and G. K. Puttaraju were present.

Focus on corn

Sri Vani Education Centre, Machohalli, recently organised "Nutritious Food Day Activity" that focussed on corn and the "yellow colour" concept.

Details on the nutritive value of corn and the variety of dishes that can be prepared with it were imparted to the children.

Corn syrup, corn bread, corn chapattis, popcorn, sweet-corn salad, and baby corn soup were some of the delicacies.

They were told that corn plants were a biodegradable renewable resource, and were grown for ornamental purposes. Children were also taught rhymes and stories pertaining to corn.

Food distribution

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sadhu Vaswani, the Interact Club members of Sindhi High School, Kumarakrupa Road, distributed food to the inmates of orphanages, old age homes and government hospitals.

The programme instilled in students the value of selfless service.
