BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basvaraj Horatti has called upon students to take up science as a profession.

He was speaking at the valedictory of the State-level quiz competition for high school students here on Wednesday.

"I know that most parents want their children to become doctors and engineers. But there are so many doctors working for meagre salaries and several unemployed engineers," he said If students took up science, they would not only contribute to the growth of the field, but also earn international fame, Mr. Horatti said.

"Several Indian scientists have attained high respect and positions internationally. I advise you to take up science as a profession," the Minister said.

`Bala Vignana' books

Mr. Horatti said `Bala Vignana' books would soon be made available at all schools. He expressed displeasure over the lack of participation in the quiz from Bangalore North taluk. Chairman of the Science and Technology Academy U.R. Rao wanted the students to develop scientific temper.
