A station in neglect

Think of Bekal and one is reminded of its natural beauty and long coastline. However, the station that leads to this place is in neglect and in dire need of revamping and restoration. The Pallikara station is the object of scrutiny, as activities to promote Bekal as a tourist destination gather momentum. With only two trains stopping here, the Pallikara station continues to remain neglected. It has a ticket counter, which is covered by shrubs. The counter was opened two years ago. Majority of the trains halt only at the next station, Kotikulam. Passengers to Pallikara have to travel back from Kotikulam. Officials of the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) said the Corporation had agree to undertake the revamping of the station.

They said the Government had given its nod for the proposal. It is proposed to change the name to Bekal Fort Station.
