Business centre for engineering units

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA) has established a business centre here at a cost of nearly Rs. 50 lakh, mainly for the tiny, small and medium-scale engineering units.

The centre, which has come up on about 700 sq.ft, has individual and group video conferencing facilities, printers, scanners and fax machines.

"The units can discuss about their products with North Indian and overseas buyers and even have product demonstration from the centre," says the association president, G. Rajendran.

A group of seven entrepreneurs can participate in the video conferencing and stay connected to six different places at a time. They can also send their documents and prepare pamphlets immediately. The entire building is wi-fi enabled.

"Along with technology upgrading, communication upgrading is also needed." While the large-scale units have in-house facilities for video conferencing and product demonstration, the small and medium-scale ones depend mostly on private facilities. They can start using the centre for a nominal fee, he says.

The centre has come up under the Rs. 70-crore project for pumps, motors and foundries in Coimbatore with assistance under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme.

Educational institutions can also use the business centre in case they need to organise international-level meetings.
