Hyderabad: Tired of paying excessive charges for sending SMS greetings to near and dear ones? The Hyderabad-based Suchinfotech has come up with a solution to bring down this cost and give a personalised feel to receivers. The firm has created a new portal, www.greetingsbySMS.com, which is loaded with features enabling users to send Short Message Service (SMS) anywhere in the country at a cost as low as 21 paise per SMS. Users of the portal can create their own address books and use pre-designed messages to suit the mood festivals, birthdays and special occasions. For those registering their e-mail addresses with the portal, the first 20 messages will be free. Users can also refer their friends' names and every time a person referred registers himself with the portal, five free messages are credited into the user's account. "We are targeting the NRIs who prefer sending bulk SMS to their friends and acquaintances in India," Suchinfotech head M.S. Raju said. Though the mobile companies offer SMS for 10 paise, the facility is restricted to local use and the rates are bumped up during festivals. "The moment you send an SMS out of the State, you will invariably be charged in excess of Re.1 per SMS," he said. GreetingsBySMS.com avoids this problem, as charges are uniform across the country. If users opt to send sponsored messages that contain a 40-character advertisement space, they will be charged U.S. $5 for 500 messages. For 160-character space, the cost is a little more.
