CHENNAI : A Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of the Transport Department was injured while conducting a vehicular check at Anna Nagar on Thursday evening. The injured official was admitted to a hospital for treatment. K. Mohanram, Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), Chennai Zone, said following complaints that old autorickshaws were plying on the city roads without proper documents, four MVIs conducted a check at Anna Nagar. Around 4.45 p.m. the inspectors stopped an autorickshaw with registration number TSJ 7065. On check, it was found that he was not having a permit, registration certificate and the insurance papers for the vehicle. Even while checking was on, the driver sped ahead, felling one of the MVIs, K. Senthoorvelan, who was holding the vehicle. The official was dragged on for some distance and sustained injuries on his right side shoulder and wrist. The injured MVI chased the autorickshaw in a jeep. As the autorickshaw entered into a lane, the official with the help of a two-wheeler rider entered the lane. The autorickshaw was eventually traced on Park Road near the Mogappair signal and the driver handed over to the Tirumangalam police. Officials identified the driver as K.Vadivelan of Valasaravakkam operating the vehicle without proper documents for over two years now.
