Protests planned against silk board Act

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Sericulture farmers and farmers' organisations are planning a series of protests in the coming year against the Central Silk Board (Amendment) Act 2006.

They are also submitting a memorandum in January to the Union Government demanding either withdrawal of the Act or incorporating changes to make it more favourable to marginal sericulture farmers, silk reelers and weavers.

These resolutions were passed at a seminar organised here on Wednesday by the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS).
