CHENNAI : The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rebels, L. Ganesan and Gingee N. Ramachandran, have filed another suit in the Madras High Court to restrain the party leadership from convening any meeting in violation of party bylaws. Justice P. Jyothimani, before whom the matter came up on Thursday, adjourned the matter to January 4 for further proceedings. Hearing on another petition, filed by MDMK headquarters secretary N. Ramamurthy, seeking to implead himself as a party to the proceedings too was adjourned. In their petition, Mr. Ganesan and Mr. Ramachandran reiterated that meetings not presided over by the party presidium chairman were illegal. Claiming that they were the real leaders of the MDMK, enjoying the support of party rank and file, they said the general council, which elected them to the party posts, alone had the powers to remove them from the responsibility. "There is no other provision prescribed for their removal," they said. Referring to the interim order of the court, the leaders said the MDMK leadership attempted to perpetuate an illegality by holding another meeting on December 25. They prayed for an order declaring the December 23 and 25 meetings of the party void, illegal and liable to be set aside. They also sought to restrain the MDMK leadership or its agents or representatives from giving effect to the resolutions passed at these meetings. In his petition, Mr. Ramamurthy said the MDMK rules and regulations vested sufficient power with the general secretary to take disciplinary action, including suspension, against any office-bearer. Besides seeking to implead himself as party to the civil proceedings, he prayed for an order vacating the interim order granted by the High Court on December 24.
