Corrections and Clarifications

A report "Indian naval landing ship to be based on western seaboard" (December 26, 2006) stated the Sea King MK 42 to be a United States-built helicopter, leading to confusion. The Sea King Mk.42 is licensed produced by the U.K.-based GKN Westland (now AgustaWestland), from Sikorsky — a U.S. company. It is the anti-submarine warfare version of the Sea King HAS.Mk 1 built for the Indian Navy. (The Sea King HAS.Mk 1 is the first anti-submarine version for the Royal Navy.)

The word "commenter (-or)" in a Guardian report "Publishing at the speed of the Internet" (Op-Ed, December 20, 2006) means "(noun) a person who comments; a commentator (Oxford English Dictionary)."

A few sports page corrections. In a report "Namdhari XI proves too good for IHF Development team" (December 23, 2006), on the MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament at Chennai, it was stated in a paragraph that Fekerlo was the BPCL goalkeeper, while another paragraph described him to be the Indian Railways goalkeeper. It was an error. The BPCL goalkeeper was M.T. Muttappa.

"The [Shane] Warne timeline" (December 22, 2006) stated under an entry "the year 1992" that Shane Warne made his test debut against India at the age of 22, finishing with overall figures of one for 228. The Sports Desk clarifies that the bowling figures of one for 228 is for the series.

"Fitness is Sania's mantra now" (December 26, 2006) stated that Indian tennis player Sania Mirza will partner the Czech player and World No. 19 Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain. Garrigues is a Spanish player.

A report "Mukul Dagar hits 122" (December 26, 2006) — on the Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite Group A cricket match at Visakhapatnam — stated that a 65-run unbroken stand for the seventh wicket between Mohit Mohindra and Cerry Goel saw Punjab recover against Delhi and reach 168 for 7. It should have been the unbroken eighth wicket stand as seven wickets had already fallen.
