Parimarjan wins two games

NEW DELHI: Looking down and out, Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi pulled off two successive wins to keep alive his slender hopes in the race for honours in the Rs. 500,000 Amity Grandmasters chess challenge match against Ukraine's Kateryna Lahno here on Sunday.

Kateryna, who won three rapid games on Saturday, added one more in 55 moves with black pieces this afternoon to take an unbeatable 4-0 lead in the 25-minute format. Undeterred, Parimarjan hit back in the fifth in 57 moves and ended the day with a fluent 26-move win.

After 12 games of the 18-game contest, Kateryna leads 7.5-4.5. She needs to win just two of the six blitz games (five-minute games) to claim the winner's purse.

The results (rapid): Game 4: Parimarjan Negi lost to Kateryna Lahno; Game 5: Kateryna lost to Negi; Game 6: Negi bt Kateryna.
