Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation G.K. Vasan recently launched ChennaiOnline's e-music classes, a global project to teach classical music over the Internet.

The Minister also presented Chennaionline "Isai Vendhar" titles on four musicians Ganesh (vocal), Mullaivaasal Chandramouli (violin), Neyveli B. Venkatesh (mridangam) and Adambakkam K. Shankar (ghatam) and the "ChennaiOnline Naatya Natchathram" title on young danseuse, Poorna Pushkala.

Lauding ChennaiOnline's initiative, Mr. Vasan said the e-Music project would help those outside Chennai to learn Indian classical music, which was unique.

Film director Vasanth, in his presidential address, said Carnatic music was special and deserved enormous encouragement.

Dance acharya and founder of Kalasamarpana Foundation, M.V. Narasimhachari, Sitar maestro Pandit Janardhan Mitta, Carnatic vocalist Sriram Gangadharan and Chennaionline CEO L. Ravichandran participated.
